Warner Bros. has revealed a new set of images from the upcoming Tolkien epic The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Out 17 December, the film will be Peter Jackson’s final chapter in his lush three-part adaptation of the fantasy literature classic.
The final installment revolves around hobbit Bilbo Baggins and the dwarf Thorin Oakenshield – who having reclaimed the underground realm of Erebor from the dragon Smaug, who sacrifices his honor in his search for the Arkenstone – despite Bilbo’s pleading attempts at reason.
Meanwhile, the evil wizard Sauron sends forth legions of Orcs in a sneak attack upon the Lonely Mountain. The fate of Middle-earth teeters on the brink as the races of Men, Elves and Dwarves must choose whether to fight together against the great foe.
Five Armies stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom and Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug, and features visual effects from WETA Digital.
