Verizon and DreamWorks Ink Multi-Year Deal For Original Content

Verizon is targeting the teenager demographic via the AwesomenessTV platform. The DreamWorks-owned network airs online programming that mainly caters to millennials. It also has a foot in the teen demographic with content that has been aired on Nickelodeon in addition to Netflix.

Also providing Verizon with content will be Awesomeness TV owner DreamWorks Animation. The deal will see Verizon get a channel that will air the studio’s content. In contrast to what AwesomenessTV provides, the DreamWorks Animation channel will feature family friendly content in expected DreamWorks fashion.

The deal will give Verizon nearly 200 hours of original content each year from DreamWorks TV and Awesomeness TV. The latter has over 112 million subscribers and wants to move ahead of just being a YouTube channel.

“It’s increasingly clear that ‘mobile first’ is the way millennials are consuming all types of content, especially HD video and music,” said Verizon VP of content acquisition and strategy Terry Denson.  “At Verizon, we’re committed to working with only the best and most innovative content providers, like AwesomenessTV, and driving opportunities as new content models emerge and customers experience the most in-demand and popular video in entirely new ways.”

AwesomenessTV CEO Brian Robbins said, “This is an incredible opportunity to expand the audience for both AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksT. Mobile is where our audience lives, which is why we are looking forward to working with Verizon to introduce our programming and talent to their massive customer base.”
