Universal Pictures appoints Nickelodeon’s Teri Weiss to head Kids Production Unit

Universal Pictures have created its Universal Kids Production group and appointed Teri Weiss the former Nickelodeon executive to lead it. After serving longtime in Nickelodeon, Teri Weiss will now function as the Senior Vice President and Head of the Kids/Family Development and Production within the new group.

The new production group led by Teri Weiss will focus on developing original television content based on new and existing intellectual properties. Universal Pictures also aim to expand its current output of content for kids and families with this new production group. They seem to add new projects to their current list including the Daytime Emmy Award-winning Curious George animated series.

Universal Kids Production is overlooked by Universal Brand Development, President, Vince Klaseus, and Teri Weiss will be reporting to him. “As Universal continues to grow our business and build our kids and family programming, Teri’s track record in building world-class production teams and hit series is a huge asset,” said Klaseus. “She is one of the most well-respected and accomplished executives in this space, and we are thrilled to develop new properties together and leverage Universal’s rich library of titles.”

Having been associated with Nickelodeon since 16 years, Teri Weiss most recently served as executive VP Original Programming for the Preschool Division since 2010. She began at the company as executive in charge of production at Nick Jr, overseeing the famous children appealing series Dora the Explorer. With her sharp leadership skills at Nickelodeon, Teri Weiss launched a series of hits like Blaze and the Monster Machines, Paw Patrol, Wallykazam, Bubble GuppiesTeam Umizoomi, The Fresh Beat Band and Dora and Friends. Prior to joining Nickelodeon, Weiss worked as a producer on Sesame Street from 1993 to 1999.
