Twitter to end engineering operations at its development centre in Bengaluru

While the news of Twitter expanding its tweet’s character limits is doing rounds everywhere, some employees at Twitter India’s Bengaluru office are not as fortunate, it seems.

Twitter has announced that they will be ceasing their engineering operations at its Bengaluru development centre, the second of its kind for the company out of USA.

The layoff which comes as a part of “normal business review” by the social networking giant will reportedly be affecting around 20 individuals, however the company has said that they will continue to have a presence in the tech city of Bengaluru.

Most of the affected employees might be from ZipDial (however, it has not been confirmed), an indigenous mobile communication company which was acquired by Twitter last year as Twitter India’s statement read, “Over the past 18 months, we have incorporated the technology and talent of our ZipDial acquisition across our company. As part of our normal business review, we have decided to stop the global engineering work at the Bangalore development centre. We thank the impacted individuals for their valuable contributions and are doing as much as we can to provide them a respectful exit from our company.”

Twitter has around 3,860 employees worldwide and might be trying to tap into the profits as it faces competition from other social media platforms like Facebook. Twitter has informed that they will be continuing their operations in the other Indian cities as well as Bengaluru normally as the statement read that the company “remains committed to India as a strategic market for users, partners and advertisers.”
