Traffic Jam- Zatun’s Latest Gaming App- Conversation with Abhinav Chokhavatia , CEO, Zatun

Inspired by a competition titled ‘A day in India’ is Zatun’s latest gaming app ‘Traffic Jam’ which is a single player game that made its debut July on android devices.

Different cartoons depicting the daily Indian life was the theme of ‘A day in India’ contest which won the heart of Abhinav Chokhavatia , CEO of Zatun and he chose to instill this in Traffic Jam’s game play by roping in a distinct Indian setting.

The game play of Traffic Jam that is aimed at 15-35 aged auds goes in line with Fruit ninja is what Abhinav shares with Animationxpress.com’s Zeenia Boatwala and continues by saying, “The game is predominantly Indian and is easy to play in the start but as your proceed further it delivers a series of challenges.”

Throughout the game, the player would be engrossed and feel excited to play further is the view of Abhinav and he adds, “It would take you around 2-3 plays to fetch a decent score and by getting the highest score you would be motivated more to play the game.”

Zatun, from ‘A day in life contest’ picked references of art style and game play to apply in Traffic Jam’ and Abhinav shares more on this, “ We wanted to depict a day in India on the street by bringing showing different Indian people on streets, who though having varied culture are still one.”

A total of 3.5 months have been taken for Zatun to develop this game with a team force of 8 artists working on it. And a breakdown of the work shows us that they took three weeks for pre-production, with overall development taking around another 3 weeks and Abhinav adds more here, “We also spent dedicated three weeks testing various ad companies, ad wrappers and adding flurry, twitter and FB functionality.”

Every game has a core area to be emphasized on and for Traffic Jam It was the game play, which initially revolved around a simple story but later saw major add ons and Abhinav highlights more on this, “We added more by having elements in the game move faster, more random and included some items which when missed would result in the health loss.”

The animation for the game was decided keeping in mind the elements of the game and the background and object animations were around five frames.

Now coming to deciding budgets for any game is a matter of deep consideration but Abhinav had already set a fixed budget for this game and he reveals that with us, “We wanted to have a low budget game. The development was around INR 1.45 Lac and we set up a budget of INR 40 Thousand for its marketing.”

Zatun, now wants to add more and more engaging features to Traffic Jam and Abhinav unveils the plans for the same by saying, “We wish to have in-app purchase and add time pause features to the game and instill a feature whereby we can teach traffic safety instructions to the audience.”
