The founder of CNN, Ted Turner who revolutionised the world of television news was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award for News & Documentary at the 36th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
The Emmy Awards that were presented in 45 categories was attended by more than 1000 television and news media industry executives, news and documentary producers and journalists.
The award was presented by Larry King, host of Ora TV’s Larry King Now. King’s Larry King Live anchored CNN’s primetime lineup for a quarter of a century.US pubcaster PBS won 17 awards. While CBS won nine awards, NBC won 5.
While praising the man behind CNN, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences president Bob Mauro exclaimed Ted to be the only man to have made a very big and long lasting impact on the world of television news. He further went on to say that Ted’s vision, leadership, flawless execution and launch of CNN was and is unparalleled in the industry.”
