Surinder VFX Studios: A complete end to end solutions post-production house

Surinder VFX Studios (SVFX) is a state of the art post-production house – based in Kolkata, India and also with a facility in Italy – providing solutions for the leading production houses and advertising agencies across the region at competitive pricing.

The post-prod facility was set up with the vision to provide superior post-production facilities to its clients, including uncompromising production in quality film making and the television industry. It also caters to the demands of post-production workflows focussing on image fidelity. It not only minimises the time but also increases the creative flexibility and output of the film makers.

SVFX is currently headed by Soumyadip Chakraborty in the capacity of chief operating officer. He is a creative director and visual effects supervisor par excellence, with experience on both national as well as international projects. He is considered to be very reliable and team-oriented supervisor by most of his clients and colleagues respectively. Described as a problem solver and being highly creative by co-artists, he is often praised for his ability to explain a complex technical situation in clear terms. He also holds the distinction of being the first Nuke software user from India.

“SVFX is a new-age creative visual effects studio with a unique delivery model which is guided by dedication to client satisfaction, organised by vertical industry as well as service line,” expounds Soumyadip.

The studio offers services in visual effects, 3D modelling, animation, lighting and texturing, matte painting, camera tracking, match moving, compositing, along with editing facilities and many more things.

SVFX Studios is also considered a visionary for having worked on heavy visual effects films like Mishwar Rohoshya, Chander Pahar, Arundhuti and Yoddhya in the recent past. The studio has also been behind the magic on the small screen for daily soaps like Kironmala on Star Jalsa and Durga on Colors Bangla.

Soumyadip says: “We believe in providing a creative bridge between all major companies and artists with a path breaking and complete consultancy service for films, television and web media. We are also diversifying into the business of creating original IPs for future projects after thorough market survey.”

On the IP front there are plans afoot for developing concept, storylines, scripting, character designing, storyboarding. Apart from developing IPs the studio will also help in providing services for 3D animatics and also has some great 2D Flash animators in the team. And budgeting is also an important part of its futuristic films and television series investment plan as well.

The studio has a robust team working round the clock to create magic using legitimate tools like Autodesk’s Maya and Max, along with The Foundry’s Nuke and Adobe After Effects for its VFX projects. And for the animation ventures, the team uses softwares like Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk’s Maya & Max.

“I believe we are very well staffed when it comes to creative talent. It’s all about the trust. At times brand does matter, but as a new studio it’s very difficult to get into the radar of established producers and directors,” Soumyadip explains on the prospect of bagging newer assignments from fresh clients.

“Time is the most crucial factor for any project that we take up. It has a major influence on the output, overseas huge schedules are laid down in advance for the work and everything is extremely well planned. Here the planning is never completely in place, not enough care is taken at the shoot stage and then VFX is used to correct the shots, thus it always helps to have time in hand,” ends Soumyadip, speaking on the hurdles that the studio faces on projects.

The studio was recently honoured with the Best VFX Tele Academy Awards for its work in Kironmala that is telecast on Star Jalsa. It certainly seems that this one stop shop for all post-production facilities is striking the right notes and is being noticed by the industry for its continued strive for excellence and perfection in whatever it set out to do.
