Streamer Pokimane donates $50K to boost gaming and esports among students

Imane “Pokimane” Anys is a Youtube and Twitch streamer and a rising to fame playing games like League of Legends and Fortnite has donated a grand total of $50,000 to the school, the amount specifically set aside to help fund an annual scholarship for students involved in gaming and esports. According to UCI Sports, the ‘Pokimane Scholarship’ will be awarded out to one qualified student per year, with the full donation sitting “for perpetuity in an investment account accruing 4 to 5 per cent annually.” The scholarship will grant the student between $2,000 and $2,500 and is touted as the first one of its kind in the program’s history.

Pokimane explained in a report that she enjoys being able to share her experience of how she achieved her success and hopes that the scholarship will help others find their own way as well. She explains it isn’t easy to pursue a college degree all the while placing a large emphasis on gaming and esports but, is happy to help support students who choose to do so.

“I love being able to share my experience of how I got to where I am today in hopes that it will help others who are on their way. I’m also especially happy to be supporting UCI’s esports program because their students are focusing on gaming in addition to pursuing their college degree–which, I can say from experience, isn’t easy!”
