Star Sports has launched Super V, an animated series that features the teenage animated version of the Indian skipper and heart-throb Virat Kohli, on the occasion of his 31st birthday today, 5 November.
To commemorate this launch, Kohli has penned a letter to his 15-year old self which captures Virat’s reflections on his adolescent years, and a message to his animated avatar, that is coming alive across TV and digital screens today. Kohli in his letter advises his 15-year old self to chase his dreams while cherishing his reality. He wants himself to grab every opportunity that comes his way without letting go of a single moment that he can get with his family. The Indian skipper shared the letter on his social media platforms.
Teased for the first time during the ICC Cricket World Cup in June, Super V is a weekly animated series about a 15-year old aspiring cricketer inspired by Kohli in his older days. The 15-year old Virat when discovers that he has superpowers, assumes the responsibility of fighting the looming threat of a super-villain, who can destroy the world. While he vanquishes villains, he also has to deal with the everyday issues that an ordinary teenager faces.
Speaking at the launch Kohli said, “It is essential to have a complete upbringing with a good balance of academics and sports. As a teenager, inculcating values such as discipline, leadership and integrity, prove to be stepping stones in developing an individual’s overall personality. Everyone would like a chance to go back in time to probably redo or correct a few things. On that note, I had the opportunity to connect with Super V and give him a little clarity in thought. In today’s world, children are always looking up to superheroes for inspiration, and I believe Super V aims to send out the right message to young viewers. I am ecstatic to be a part of this concept and to be associated with Star.”
The show also explores a young Virat’s relationship with his parents, his sister, his friends and his teachers. It narrates the adventurous coming-of-age story of him becoming Super V and the various dimensions of adolescence as the character, who struggles to create an identity for himself – between his own aspirations, parental expectations and his desire to protect his loved ones. He is a fun loving yet temperamental teenager who takes the viewer through his adventurous journey while exploring the relationship he shares with his family and friends. The action-adventure series also sees Virat battle some of the biggest villains.
Commissioned in 2017, Super V has been produced as a collaboration between Star India, Cornerstone Animation and Baweja Movies. The 12-part series premiers in 70+ countries across 5 continents via the Star network and Hotstar.
Virat’s journey in Super V is also inspired by real-life incidents from the Cricketer’s life so it’s appropriate that Virat himself makes an appearance in every episode to underline what he thinks the life-lesson in that episode is. His appearance as a ‘sutradhaar’ in Super V is aimed at connecting Virat with young viewers across the country and hopefully helping them in a small way in their own personal journeys. The series aims to emphasise the balance between power and responsibility, freedom and accountability, self-confidence and humility and most importantly, loving yourself and loving others.
The series premieres today at 3:30 PM IST and will air every Sunday at 9 am and 4 pm on Star Plus, Star Sports, Disney Channel and Marvel HQ and Hotstar.
