The British Academy Children’s awards 2018 concluded in London with Nickelodeon’s hit animation series SpongeBob SquarePants bagging the prize for the best international animation. The American television series fought off competition from Trollhunters, The Deep, and The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe.
Among the feature films, Paddington 2 was adjudged the best among the nominees that included Coco, Incredibles 2 and The Greatest Showman. However, the biggest winner of the evening was Hey Duggee which won three awards on the night.
The British animated series by Studio AKA took home the preschool animation award as well as succeeded in the digital category for its app Hey Duggee: The Counting Badge. Director Grant Orchard also won the award for the best director.
The educational series follows The Squirrel Club, an activity club for children wherein each episode presents a new situation that can be solved with a new skill. Hey Duggee premiered in January 2015 and has successfully aired 104 episodes so far stretched across two seasons.
Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle won the BAFTA award in the gaming category and British kids channel CBeebies was honored with the best channel over CBBC, Hopster and Truetube.
