South Korea Cultural Centre launches a short animated cartoon making contest

A short animated cartoon making contest was launched for amateur and professional filmmakers by the South Korean Cultural Centre recently.

The contest will run until 30 July, attracting young filmmakers from the state-owned Viet Nam Animation Centre, private studios and independent filmmakers.

The ten-minute cartoons will be judged by two Vietnamese, two Korean experts and the centre’s director, Park Nark-jong.

“The contest is very good chance for not only professional filmmakers, but also amateurs, who don’t have many opportunities to show off their creativity,” said Luong Thi Minh Phuong, director of the Viet Nam Animation Centre at a press conference.

First, second and third prizes will be awarded VND30 million (roughly US$1,500) by the cultural centre, VND20 million the by Gangwon Information & Multimedia Corporation (GIMC) and VND20 million by the Viet Nam Department of Cinematography, respectively.

The top three bests will also receive support from the GIMC to improve their films with a view to presenting them at the Chuncheon Anitown Festival in September. It is one of the most popular international animation festivals in Korea.

The animated cartoon contest is a highlight of the second Viet Nam-Korea Animation Festival following the first one in 2014. The festival will be held from 13-16 August at Ha Noi’s Au Co Theatre.
