Sony Pictures Animation launches the teaser trailer of ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’

Sony Pictures Animation has released the first official teaser trailer for director Kelly Asbury’s (Shrek 2, Gnomeo & Juliet) “Smurfs: The Lost Village”.

The film is based primarily on The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo, and is a total reboot film, completely unrelated to Sony’s live-action / animated film series which hit the theatres in 2011 and 2013.

In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!

The film stars Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Jack McBrayer as Clumsy Smurf, Danny Pudi as Brainy Smurf and Joe Manganiello as Hefty Smurf. The antagonist Gargamel has been voiced by Rainn Wilson.

As opposed to the live action / animated film, the voice cast of this fully animated movie has been changed. In the live action / animated movie, Katy Perry had lend her voice to Smurfette whereas Jonathan Winters voiced Papa Smurf.

The Smurfs made on a budget of $110 million grossed $563 million in 2011 whereas The Smurfs 2 whose budget was $105 million managed to rake in just $347 million in 2013.
