Retro Batman teams up with the secret spies of The Man from U.N.C.L.E in upcoming Batman 66 mini-series

Henry Cavill’s Superman may sure be force thwarting the Caped Crusader in Zack Synder’s next Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but in ironical turn of events, DC Comics recently announced a team-up in an upcoming mini-series of the digital – first comic, Batman 66 along with the characters of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

BM66UNCLE-Cv1-f586fJogging back to the 1960S, The Man from U.N.C.L.E was a television show based on the exploits of two secret service agents, the American Napoleon Solo alongside the Russian Illya Kuryakin. The show ran from 1964-1968 and was much inspired from Ian Flemings’ James Bond who as a matter of fact has also contributed in developing the show. The spy-series revolved around a plot wherein their agency worked against the evil organization T.H.R.U.S.H.

A modern day remake of The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015) from Warner Bros. recently hit the big screens ironically starring the current Superman Henry Cavill as Napoleon Solo.

On the other hand, DC’s cash cow Batman reprises his nostalgic batsuit in Batman 66, a digital first comic written by Jeff Parker. Batman 66 picks up the storyline from where the early Batman TV show, ‘Dynamic Duo’ left which starred Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin respectively.

According to official announcement, Batman 66 meets The Man from U.N.C.L.E would be a six issue min-series going on sale in December. Penned by Jeff Parker and artist David Hahn, the series’ plot revolves around the malicious organization T.H.R.U.S.H who are master-minding a plan for world conquest by recruiting some of Gotham City’s most infamous villains. This being the platform, the two secret spies, Napoleon and Illya would confront Gotham’s Dark knight Batman in thwarting T.H.R.U.S.H’s deadly motives.

Last year Batman 66 successfully teamed up with The Green Hornet and was penned by Kevin Smith. Following that successful trend, the comic publisher also lined up Wonder Woman 77, based on the 1970s Lynda Carter TV show. In an another press release DC Comics also announced their decision to shelve five poor selling on-going series including Justice League United, Lobo, Doomed, Gotham By Midnight and The Omega Men.
