The People’s Choice Awards which was recently held at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theatre on 6 January is the American award show wherein the winners are chosen by the general public. Stars from TV, movie and music gathered for the People’s Choice Awards which was hosted by Glee star Jane Lynch.

Many new faces and shows bagged the prestigious awards. Among them was the Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra for her work on the new Quantico show that’s been aired on ABC network. Competing against Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele and Marcia Gay Harden under the Favourite Actress In A New TV Series, Priyanka bagged the winner prize.

The Favourite New TV Drama award was won by the show, Supergirl which is based on the life of Kara Zor-El, the Kryptonian cousin to Superman. The show  was nominated against Blindspot, Code Black, Heroes Reborn and Quantico. Winning this award highlights how comic based shows are winning the hearts of the audiences, encouraging more such shows to be produced.

One surprising winner under TV show category was Beauty and the Beast under the Favourite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show. Why’s it surprising is the fact that it was competing against Arrow, Once Upon a Time, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries who have a larger fan base. This might probably be the last time the series will win an award as this is the final season of the series.

minionsComing to the movie section, Fast and Furious 7 took away two awards; one under the Favourite Movie and the other under the Favourite Action Movie category. While collecting the award, Vin Diesel became emotional after winning two awards as he remembered his former co-star Paul Walker and ended his speech with a verse from See You Again.

The american singer and actress Selena Gomez enthralled the viewers with her voice over in animated vampire comedy flick Hotel Translyvania 2 and won the Favourite Animated Movie Voice whereas the adorable Minions went on to bag the Favourite Family Movie award.

Casual game Candy Crush Saga took home the coveted prize for Favourite Mobile Game. The game which has been on the top spot on all app stores for years now, is still ruling the hearts of the mobile gamers.

Super Smash Bros, the video game which was first released in 1999 with various iterations being incorporated later, still is a fan preferred among the Nintendo users and won the Favourite Video Game award.
