Prasad EFX gives the royal treatment to ‘Raja Natwarlal’; executes 350 VFX shots

If you happened to catch any of the recent movies like Hasee Toh Phasee, Satyagrah or Hate Story 2; the guys who worked on bringing together the VFX bit for the aforementioned flicks are the talented bunch of artists from Prasad EFX.

Set in a sprawling vintage film studio, Prasad group’s digital post facilities are equipped with the best and latest technologies, and have now added the recently released movie ‘Raja Natwarlal’ to its portfolio.

Raja Natwarlal, starring Emraan Hashmi, Humaima Malick, PareshRawal and Kay Kay Menon has been directed by Kunal Deshmukh and produced by UTV Motion Pictures.

“We started working on this project in the first week of August and we completed this in the 3rd week of August. The VFX work of ‘Raja Natwarlal’ comprised of a few chroma sequences, wire removals, face touchups, set extensions, CG car damage, day to night shots and TV and laptop pips,” said Prasad EFX, head of production(Mumbai), Suresh Kondareddy.

The movie revolves around two men, Raja and Raghav who are partners in crime. They hustle their way through the city of Mumbai and live off their meagre cons. During one such con, Raghav is murdered and Raja’s life takes a grave turn instigating him to avenge the killers of his best friend and partner. On his journey of revenge, he decides to team up with Yogi who is a senior con artist but has been on a self imposed sabbatical. Raja after much persuasion is able to convince Yogi that it’s imperative for him to avenge his partner’s death and the person responsible is an influential and powerful man named, Varda. Along with a team, Raja and Yogi Work together to pull of one massive con that will bring all of Varda’s riches and reputation to the ground. They face many twists and turns leading up to the final stage; but do they make it or will the final con act fall apart for all to witness?

To ensure perfect blending and flawless scenes Prasad EFX group executed a total of 350 VFX shots in the movie. “We used the technique of 3D projection mapping for the movie. We also worked closely with the director Kunal Deshmukh from the pre-production stages. We then prepared detailed concepts and shot BG plates in the same lighting conditions so that we could incorporate these in the scene and get the desired result,” added Suresh.

Suresh Kondareddy (Head of Production), Sachin Bole (Vfx Supervisor) and P. Mohan (Vfx Producer) are some of the key artists who have worked on the movie. “The scene where Kay Kay Menon and Emraan  Hashmi meet the fake AICA Secretary is one of the best scenes as it is perfectly blended and completely seamless. It was shot against a green screen in a studio and later replaced with an empty cricket stadium, which was composited, tracked and roto’d. The team was fully involved right from pre-production stage by utilising Prasad-EFX’s internal pipeline,” ended Suresh.

Earlier the film was titled Shaatir and Emraan Hashmi was speculated to play the character of a ‘shaatir’ conman in the film. In April 2014, the film’s title was changed to Raja Natwarlal inspired by the 1979 Amitabh Bachan film Mr. Natwarlal.
