The increasing impetus being given to the the animation, VFX, gaming and comic (AVGC) industry from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Finance has now gone a step further.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been touring several countries since he took charge, has decided to go the whole hog to promote the AVGC sector. He has invited Technicolor country head – India and ABAI president Biren Ghose and FICCI AVGC Forum chairman Ashish Kulkarni to discuss the way forward.
“We are delighted that the Prime Minister is keen to develop the AVGC sector. We shall be presenting to him a roadmap of the requirements that will be needed to grow the industry. The sector is in dire need of government thrust both at the education and the employment level and we hope to achieve this through the meeting,” beams a confident Biren.
The meeting is set to happen later next week where the duo will be sitting down the PM and contemplating on the path to creating a positive AVGC environment in the country, giving equal weightage to both business and creative elements.
“It’s about time that the AVGC sector got recognised for the power it has to transform the media and entertainment sector in the coming years. The meeting with the PM will surely result in a boost for the sector and is likely to have an impact on the remotest corners of the country,” adds Ashish.
The state of Karnataka is the only place in India to have a set policy for the sector and one such is pending in the cabinet of the Maharashtra state government. The recently announced Finance budget by minister Arun Jaitley stated that there is to be a provision for setting up an animation and gaming centre in Arunachal Pradesh as well.
PM Modi announced the meeting via Twitter stating, “Looking forward to meet my friends Biren Ghose and Ashish Kulkarni for forming a national AVGC policy.”
