Now search for Google on Alphabet aka abc.xyz

Alphabet, the new kid on the block has just taken charge over Google and it is changing how things function. The new company, Alphabet, will preside over a collection of companies, the largest of which will be Google. Google is slimming down to a few businesses under the leadership of Sundar Pichai.

Google, the technology conglomerate announced its surprise restructuring on Monday but what stole the show was the appointment of executive Sundar Pichai replacing Larry Page as the new CEO.

SundarPichaiLarry Page has left to take charge at Alphabet and co-founder Sergey Brin will be serving as president and Eric Schmidt will be executive president. Alphabet will now be the umbrella which will have all the companies which were owned by Google and the search engine giant will only have Search, Advertising, YouTube, Google Maps, Chrome, Android and Apps as its core business. Its other spinoffs like Calico (the company life-extension biotech research), Nest (maker of the Nest thermostat), Google Fiber (high speed internet service), Ventures and Capitals (early investing into viable companies) and its ‘moonshot’ research incubator X Lab which has projects like self driving cars and delivery drones will become separate companies under Alphabet.

By separating the businesses from Google’s core business, Larry Page has given out a loud message that whatever happens with its spin-off projects, it will be business as usual at Page’s first love.

This is big news for the Indian origin Pichai, who joined Google in 2004 and has slowly risen in ranks within the company working on the best known products such as Chrome browser and Android. He studied Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur).

Congratulations are pouring in from all quarters for the new CEO with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Apple CEO Tim Cook, PM Narendra Modi and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt all wishing Pichai for his new journey via Twitter.
