New York International Children’s Film Festival winners announced

The New York International Children’s Film Festival which took place from 26 February, 2016 to 20 March, 2016 has announced the winners of its 19th edition in various categories.

During four weekends of films from over 30 countries in the month of March, the festival witnessed over 25,000 parents, children, and filmmakers to experience exclusive new films for ages 3-18. The films showcased were across all genres like animation, live action, documentary, and experimental film from over 2,500 international submissions.

The 2016 Grand Prize winners were stop-motion animated short A Town Called Panic: Return To School and live action film Birds Of Passage.

The Audience Award winners were Octopus, The Visitors, A Town Called Panic: Return to School and One, Two, Tree. While, the Jury Award winners for the Best Animated Short were Under Your Fingers and My Grandfather Was a Cherry Tree and for the Best Live Action Short  were In the Sea Where I Was Born and I Am Yup’ik.

The festival which was founded in 1997 has grown from one weekend of films into the largest film festival for children and teens in North America. The festival aims to cultivate an appreciation for the art of filmmaking with a view of encouraging lively discussion among peers, families, and the film community.
