Mike Chamber elected as the board chair of Visual Effects Society

The Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s global professional honorary society, announced today its 2015 Board of Directors officers. The officers, who comprise the VES Board Executive Committee, were elected at the January 2015 Board meeting. The officers include Mike Chambers, who was elected as Board Chair.

“We are fortunate to have such esteemed leadership represented on the executive committee. Collectively, these talented professionals bring passion, diverse experience and enormous commitment to our organisation. We look forward to Mike Chambers’ vision and enthusiastic leadership in taking the organisation and our global membership to new heights,” said VES executive director Eric Roth.

VES is the only organisation representing the full length and breadth of visual effects practitioners including artists, animators, technologists, model makers, educators, studio leaders, supervisors, PR/marketing specialists and producers in all areas of entertainment from film, television and commercials to music videos and games.

Chambers has contributed to the visual effects efforts on many Academy & BAFTA award-winning films, and he has personally won 2 VES Awards for Best Visual Effects, for The Day After Tomorrow and Inception, and has been nominated for his work on I Am Legend. He is currently working on the post-production on Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.

The society consists of a diverse group of more than 2,400 members out of which 20 per cent are women. Also elected to VES board offices are producer Nancy St. John, first vice chair; director, VFX supervisor and media director at RGH Entertainment, Richard Winn Taylor II, second vice chair; DAA president Bob Coleman, secretary; and business and marketing/public relations consultant Rita Cahill, secretary.
