Microsoft jumps the queue, to launch smartwatch in few weeks

Smartwatch war just got a little hot with Microsoft planning to unveil its smartwatch in a few weeks.  With Apple announcing their watch a month ago, Microsoft is in a time crunch to launch its watch before its rivals and cash in on the holiday season.

The smartwatch is touted to have a tracker to track heart rate and will work for different mobile operating systems. It will also boast of a battery life for more than two days of the regular use supposedly.

This puts it ahead of Samsung’s Smart Gear 2 and Moto 360 which have to be charged every day. It would be unwise on Microsoft’s part to make the smartwatch exclusive only on the Windows phones as the phones only have 2.5% market share in the smartphone ecosystem.

This will be the first new device under the new CEO Satya Nadella and Microsoft would want to capture the market early and stay ahead in the race unlike its smartphone business. Wearable tech is still an unexplored area but is capturing every tech giant’s attention. It is estimated to cross $7 billion by the end of 2015.
