Lionsgate invests in Telltale Games, to bring out game/show hybrid

Telltale Games, the studio behind many popular episodic franchise based games like The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead and the most recent Game of Thrones has now a partner in Lionsgate which has invested heavily into the studio. It is looking to tackle a television series with a similar approach: a game/show hybrid the studio is calling a Super Show. The format includes both scripted and ‘playable’ elements for episodes, so just like the games; viewers will be able to decide the sequence of events.

“It’s not an interactive series with a show, or a TV show with a game, but a story integrated in a way that only Telltale can do,” Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner told Entertainment Weekly. “For us it’s a very natural evolution of the interactive story telling expertise we’ve pioneered.”

Unity's John Riccitiello and Lionsgate's Jon Feltheimer

Telltale Games also revealed several new members of its Board of Directors. Joining the table are former Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello, who’s currently heading the Unity Technologies and current Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer.

The news has many within Telltale Games very excited about the company’s future.

“As Telltale continues to lead the revolution in next generation interactive storytelling, I’m excited to welcome two top executives to our Board. Jon Feltheimer and John Riccitiello have decades of experience delivering premium entertainment to audiences everywhere. This is a time of explosive growth and opportunity for our company, and I’m thrilled to have these industry giants join us as we continue to define exceptional interactive scripted entertainment,” Kevin added.

John Riccitiello said, “Telltale has created something entirely new. Their games combine linear storytelling and gameplay in an entirely new way that is fresh, unique, and compelling. I’m excited to partner with Kevin and his team at Telltale as they build on their success in bringing together some of what is the best of television, film and video games.”
