Learn how Shade VFX enabled ‘Daredevil’ to clean up Hell’s Kitchen

Marvel’s Daredevil has been praised by audience and critics alike and with several Emmy nominations to boast of which include Main Title design, Sound Editing and Visual Effects, it was only going to take studios who have been behind the successful series to show what went into making ‘Man with no Fear’ behind the scenes. To celebrate Emmy nomination, Shade VFX which has primarily worked on the series released a VFX breakdown for the fight scene between Daredevil/Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and ninja in red Nobu (Peter Shinkoda).

The clip is majorly the fight sequence from the episode where Daredevil is set-up to come for Wilson Fisk/The KingPin after the murder of Elena Cardenas. The VFX part only starts when the video is nearing end showing the VFX that went into the scene, utilizing fast swipes and side-by side comparison shots to reveal what was digital and what was actually shot on set. The blade used by Nobu was entirely made in CGI and it makes us realize how much of the fight was enhanced through the VFX, including amount and color of Murdock’s blood, many shots of Nobu’s chained weapon, not to mention a lot of the parts where Nobu’s blade slices through Matt’s clothing and cuts him, which makes so much more sense to do visually.

VFX in the TV series has now been prominent with the likes of Game of Thrones, The Flash incorporating major work on the post production to bring that much more realism to the storyline and also enhancing the characterization of the pivotal protagonists.

Netflix has already ordered season 2 which will premiere in 2016 with the returning cast of Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Rosario Dawson, and new additions Jon Bernthal (as Frank Castle/ The Punisher) and Elodie Yung (as Elektra). Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez take over as showrunners for the second season.
