‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ director Jennifer Yuh Nelson joins Academy Board of Governors

Jennifer Yuh Nelson, the director of Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of The Academy of Motion Picture. Also, Reginald Hudlin and Gregory Nava were confirmed by the current Board members for the three-year term.

Academy_of_Motion_Picture_Arts_and_Sciences_logo.svgThe South Korean born American director and storyboard artist, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, made her directional debut with Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) and then went further on to direct Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) along with Alessandro Carloni.

Reginald Hudlin has been appointed for the Directors Branch, Oscar-nominated scribe Gregory Nava for Writers Branch and the panda franchise veteran Jennifer Yuh Nelson for the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch. These three new members have been added to the 51-seat Board of Governors of the Academy.

Academy President, Cheryl Boone Isaacs said, “I’m proud of the steps we have taken to increase diversity. However, we know there is more to do as we move forward to make this a more inclusive organisation.”

The Board has also appointed Academy members to each of the six Board committees that provide oversight to specific Academy areas. Disney Legend Floyd Norman notably joins the Education and Outreach Committee.
