James Gunn hints at two new additions in ‘Guardians of The Galaxy’ sequel

At the time where Civil War is attracting all of the superheroes from the Marvel universe, James Gunn has sparked off rumors to the Marvel’s upcoming space-superhero sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

With the casting already rolled out for the sequel, James Gunn in a Q&A on Twitter revealed that there would be two additions to the league of Guardians starring alongside the original star cast of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the mono-syllabic Groot and Bradley Cooper as the motor-mouth Rocket Raccoon.

During the Guardians of the Galaxy press junket, the film-maker voiced out that there would be at least two female members on the team (that would include Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana) for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. Although the Marvel Universe has a vast array of potential female leads filling that space, comic junkies and fans are vouching for Mantis who is a telepathic, an expert in martial arts, and can analyze her enemies to find their weak points nearly instantaneously.

Other than Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, the green complexioned Mantis is the only one of the strongest females in the series. Hinting further, Gunn mentioned that the other addition would be someone familiar and with all the Avengers busy in the Civil War crisis a strong guess is that it could be the game hunter – Yondu played by Michael Rooker in the original Guardians of The Galaxy (2014). However with Infinity Wars planned, comic followers would realize the need to introduce Adam Warlock at some point who could also be a potential candidate. As per comics Warlock is a main character in the storyline involving Thanos and the Infinity Gems.

Although Gunn has belled the cat by hinting at new additions, he remains tight-lipped about whom those two would be which leaves us with wild guesses. Spilling the beans about the story arc, Gunn mentioned that the ‘risky sequel’ would be a ‘Story about fathers’ and one could only take another wild guess about whether Peter’s father Jason of Spartax, the second son of the galactic Emperor who acted as Star-Lord before him could be part of the sequel.

With a good two years from now, Guardians of The Galaxy 2 doesn’t hit the theatres before 5 May, 2017 and would most likely follow the strings of all the upcoming Marvel movies until then.
