‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ trailer declares another war on America

After around 10 years of wait, the world will once again fight for its freedom with America at the helm, as the Independence Day: Resurgence has arrived along with a forth coming war. It is the sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day which showed a different explanation of Independence altogether. And, with this film, again there will be a battle for freedom not from tyranny, oppression or persecution but from alienation.

Directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Dean Devlin and Carter Blanchard, this film focuses on the revival of the alien troupe to earth and the attempt of the human force to stop them. In the 1996 film, ultimately the battle is won as the alien mothership is destroyed and the heroes escape after a close encounter. The whole world then celebrates the Independence Day as a victorious conquer is achieved.

The film does not have major changes in the plot just that the trailer claims the relics of the alien being found and a war is anticipated. As twenty years have passed by after the events of the first film, the international community has thoroughly worked on to recover and build up Earth’s defenses using technology salvaged from remains of the alien forces. But will these defenses be enough to fight the mighty forces that have revamped in these 20 years? Will America celebrate its Independence Day this time with true freedom?

The power of the alien forces and their arrival on the earth is shown meticulously by the VFX done by Image Engine, MPC and Scanline VFX. The explosions are immensely created by MPC as the alien force has advanced its equipment and the explosions may even go to the extent of blowing up the entire Earth. To show the intensity of the war after 20 years of build up, the VFX cover all scenarios like a war fare in the sea, on land, in space and even on the moon.

The film misses an integral part of the film, the acting star Will Smith, however, the cast involves Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A Fox and Brent Spiner, reprising their original roles. Newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King, Angelababy and William Fichtner will add their own touch to the film by justifying their respective roles. Distributed by 20th Century Fox, Independence Day: Resurgence is set to hit theatres on 24 June, 2016.
