Hoppo.TV set to launch at Mumbai Film and Comics Convention

HopMotion Animation is all set to launch Hoppo.TV – a web portal for animated web shows targeting teens and young adults. You’ve got to watch it if you have the eye balls for it. Hoppo.TV is a place for animated content, web shows and whacky characters that would usually never find a home on television or traditional media. While as an animation studio HopMotion will continue its focus on television content for kids, Hoppo.TV will cater to all those grown ups that enjoy their content with a slight adult twist, yet keeping that inner child well fed.

“In India generally animation is perceived to be something that only kids watch. Hoppo.TV is an attempt to change this pattern. Hoppo.TV targets a more mature audience who don’t mind animated content that pushes the envelope. Why should animation and cartoons only be for kids?,” argues HopMotion Animation founder Anish Patel.

‘Adult Swim’ swam into international waters in this territory and has grown to what it is today. It produces content for adult audiences and has grown to gain fans in India too. Thus, it’s time for fans of animation to have their very own destination that caters to their tastes. A place where they can choose the content that they wish to see. That’s something Hoppo.TV strives to do as well: give the viewers a say. “Viewers will get to vote on upcoming shows and characters. We will then decide which show or character to start animating based on its popularity. At first, the platform will feature shows produced by artists at HopMotion’s Mumbai studio, but eventually the plan is to invite individual artist and creators from all over India to produce their own web shows for the platform,” expounds Anish.

One of the first web shows to be launched on Hoppo.TV will be Kung Fu Singh. You can catch the teaser for the same exclusively at HopMotion’s booth at Comi-Con in Mumbai. Kung Fu Singh is about a clumsy, Bruce lee obsessed young sardar kid who invariably causes accidental bloodshed everywhere he goes. Every webisode will comprise an outlandish visual gag that is not meant for the squeamish. ‘Kung Fu Sing’ will soon be followed by his arch nemesis and feisty-fighter ‘Ninja Patel’. This young gujju dame packs quite a ninja chop, so there’s no messing with her.

‘Kung Fu Singh’ and ‘Ninja Patel’ are just a sneak peak into the kind of stuff Hoppo.TV has on its platter. Modern Activity, a web show about a bunch of nutty, naughty, ruffian, Mumbai middle-schoolers is already a part of Hoppo.TV’s current line up! Besides these shows there’s plenty more that will follow next year.

Bookmark Hoppo.TV for other edgy shows such as ‘The SoBo Snob’ about the grievances and travails of anelisit South Bombay snob who has to often tread across the worli sea-link to the ‘dark side.’ There’s also ‘Fookya and Sootya’, the slacker-stoners from Bandra. This soulful twosome are masters in the art of nothingness. And then there’s our very own super sexy neighbourhood guardian, ‘Vigil Aunty’ from South Delhi. This is just to name a few. So watch out, there will be more web shows and characters rolling out soon.
