Green Lantern and Star Trek to share ‘Space’ in The Spectrum War mini-series

Space, the final frontier for the Federation in Star Trek, would soon be housing the Green Lantern Corps as per the latest announcements by CBS Consumer Products, IDW Publishing and DC Comics. The reportedly titled cross-over mini-series, Star Trek/ Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, will be a six issue comic-book min-series penned by writer Mike Johnson (Star Trek, Supergirl) and penciller Angel Hernandez (Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse, Arrow).

In a statement released, IDW president and COO Greg Goldstein stated: “We’ve looked forward to bringing these two iconic universes together for a long time. Star Trek and Green Lantern both share so many of the same science-fiction adventure themes and ideals, that a galaxy-spanning crossover like this is simply…logical.”

Fans of both these series are surely excited to see the logical Vulcan Mr. Spock and the daring Captain James Kirk team up with DC Comics’ emerald superhero, Hal Jordan. It would really be amazing to see the Green Lantern aboard the USS Enterprise with Captain Kirk shouting orders to ‘Open all thrusters…’! Other leading characters from the Star Trek Universe that could leap into the comic pages include the Kirk’s sidekick Mr. Bones and Scotty along with Spock’s love interest Uhura.

Set in the Star Trek’s 23rd century, the plot of The Spectrum War will see the Green Lantern Corps’ Power Rings come into the possession of certain Star Trek characters while a dark and powerful evil force lurks around the space. Only the combined power of the Green Lantern Corp and the Federation would stand any chance of stopping those who worship the evil’s might.

This is not the first time, the space adventures of Captain Kirk collided with the DC universe for back in 2011, DC comics’ the Legion of Superheroes crossed over the path of the Federation in a mini-series issues. While the previous cross-over was based on the Star Trek original series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, the upcoming The Spectrum Warseries would cross-over the JJ Abrams’ rebooted Star Trek universe that starred Chris Pine as the rule-bending Captain Kirk. The two installments of the rebooted Star Trek grossed over $800 million world-wide at the box-office, however DC Comics’ Green Lantern’s big-screen feature starring Ryan Reynolds fared poorly with collections nearing $220 million worldwide.
