FilmBox rebrands Extra as Live service; to come onboard PlayStation4

Users of the FilmBox Live offering in Turkey, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia will now be able to access movies, TV series and thematic videos on the PlayStation4 platform. FilmBox Live, featuring a number of live-streaming TV channels and VOD content has been running on the PlayStation3 for some time.

“We are thrilled to make our FilmBox Live app available on PS4 and bring our content to many more people in the community throughout the CEE and Turkey,” said Berk Uziyel, executive director at FilmBox International in a statement. “We are very pleased to offer the Pursers who will choose to subscribe to FilmBox Live a true variety of really impressive movies and TV series in addition to a huge library of other videos and TV content.”

Anticipating an upcoming content boost from major US TV and film distributors, SPI International has also announced it will change the name of its FilmBox Extra channel to FilmBox Premium in Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania. The name change comes as a result of an internal brand review, which indicated that the broadcaster should clearly distinguish its FilmBox Extra flagship premium channel from the other FilmBox brand channels offered in the basic, EBS and premium tiers in the region.

“We are currently negotiating new acquisition deals with major US distributors and we expect to air a number of first-run feature movies on FilmBox Premium by the end of this year,” Uziyel added. “We want to make sure that our subscribers have total clarity as to which one of our numerous channels carries the most recent movie premieres and new TV series.”

The FilmBox Premium channel will be carried by most of the DTH platforms and large cable networks in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. The channel will feature a mix of Hollywood and international blockbusters, TV series from the US, the UK and Australia as well as a selection of independent film productions from Europe and Asia.
