Esham studios acquires rights to develop animation series based on Mario Miranda’s work

The renowned works of well-known cartoonist and winner of Padma Vibhushan in 2012, late Mario Miranda will now be developed into an animation series that will soon be aired on television.

Mumbai-based Esham Studio has purchased the rights of few of the well-known works of Miranda like Ferry Across Zuari, Carreira and Welcome to Goa, which would be adapted into an animation series.

A Goan script writer named Shripad Pai who has seen the era, depicted in Miranda’s cartoons has been roped in to pen the series.

Each of his cartoons will be developed into 11-minute long animations and there would be a total of 52-episodes which would be shown on the television.

“The animated series on Miranda’s works will have voice-over in Konkani but considering the eminent cartoonist’s fan following across the globe, we are sure that it will be received very well. Mario’s fan following is worldwide and they are fond of his characters,” he added.

Kuri, an alumnus of the Goa College of Art, has directed animated short film ‘Pensov – Do The Good’ which is currently part of NFDC Film Bazaar at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here.

Miranda, an internationally acclaimed cartoonist, was known for his works which also depicted the laid-back life of Goa. He died at his native place in Goa in 2011 at the age of 85.
