DC’s ‘Supergirl’ TV series gets a complete 20 episodes treatment

DC Universe’s Supergirl who’s one of the last surviving Kryptonians and also the biological cousin to Superman recently got a TV series under her hood that’s currently airing on CBS network. The series is based on the characters from DC Comics and CBS recently announced that it has ordered for seven more episodes of Supergirl, providing a full season of 20 episodes for the freshman drama that launched on 26 October.

Supergirl currently averages 11.24 million viewers, and has improved the year ago time period by +46 per cent in viewers, +40 per cent in adults 18-49 and +25 per cent in adults 25-54. Supergirl‘s premiere was one of this fall’s most-watched debuts, and the series has been rated 97 per cent by Rotten Tomatoes and 6.3/10 on IMDb.

The series stars Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott with David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are executive producers for Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

supergirl-arrow-the-flash-cbs-the-cwThe series has been developed and executive produced by Greg Berlanti who’s also working on Arrow and The Flash that’s airing on The CW. Recently there were rumors speculating about a crossover between Supergirl and Flash that managed to generate lot of curiosity among the fans. But to fans dismay, Berlanti told the press that, “No, only because we just received the pick up. Not at this point.”

So we may get to see a crossover happening between Supergirl and either Arrow or Flash in the future as though the shows are aired on different networks, The CW is half owned by CBS. For now, along with Supergirl, CBS has given additional episode orders to all of its new fall series Life in Pieces, Limitless and Code Black.
