DC to celebrate 80 years of Batman with two new comic books

DC Comics recently released early details on the creators pertaining to the upcoming 1000th issue of Detective Comics, as well as information on the Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman Deluxe Edition hardcover. On the occasion, DC will come up with two new special releases.

1000th edition of  Detective Comics will feature 96 pages of stories, including a lead story by regular series creative team Peter J. Tomasi and Doug Mahnke that introduces a continued version of the Arkham Knight character who first appeared in the Batman: Arkham Knight video game. Batman creators past and present, including Denny O’Neil, Neal Adams, Paul Dini, Brian Michael Bendis, Priest, Geoff Johns, and more, will also contribute stories to the milestone issue.

“The enduring popularity of Batman over the past 80 years speaks to the character’s multi-generational appeal. We’re proud to celebrate Batman’s cultural impact with these special releases and look forward to a year of commemorating this milestone anniversary with fans across the globe,” said DC publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio.

Both of these books sound like they’ll dovetail well with this year’s Action Comics 1000th edition and Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman books.

The Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman hardcover will include a collection of notable issues of it, including the first appearances of Batman, Robin, Slam Bradley, Martian Manhunter, and others.

The book will also include a previously unpublished story by Paul Levitz and Denys Cowan, essays by creators like Neil Gaiman and Denny O’Neil, and a never-before-seen set of layouts to Detective 200 by Bob Kane ghost artist Lew Sayre Schwartz.

Detective Comics 1000 and Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman will both release in March. We can’t wait.
