DC movies are ‘edgier’ than Marvel, says Warner Bros’ Kevin Tsujihara

Even as more and more comic books are being adapted into movies, Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara feels that the audience is hungry for more superhero flicks. He was speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference.

Variety has quoted Kevin as stating that there won’t be any fatigue factor because the movies, games and TV shows all look different. He feels that all the superhero characters out there are very different from each other. “The worlds of DC are very different. They are steeped in realism and are a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies,” he is quoted as stating. This is what separates the Justice League from the Avengers.

According to him, the diversity of characters is what will keep consumers lapping up the content.  He named Supergirl and Aquaman as examples, one which widens the demographic of superhero fans and the other which introduces a ‘different world’. He also said that franchises are easier to market as there is no need to explain what a batman versus superman is.

Starting 2016, Warner Bros has lined up two superhero movies per year.
