Critics’ Choice Television Awards and Movie Awards gets merged into one

The Critics’ Choice Television Awards and The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be combined into one three-hour event for the first time which will air on Sunday in mid January – a shift from its recent Thursday night slot.

The 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards will air on A&E Networks on 17 January, and the event will be will be preceded by one-hour red-carpet coverage. It will feature winners picked by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association and the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globes Awards, that will air on 10 January on NBC is going to face a tough competition as even they hand out trophies in both film and TV categories.

The awards show’s new focus was unveiled today by A&E’s Exececutive VP, Elaine Frontain Bryant and BFCA/BTJA president, Joey Berlin. “We are thrilled to bring the two Critics’ Choice Awards shows into one super-show,” Berlin said. “Bringing all these stars together in one room is going to create an incredible night of entertainment.”

Earlier this year, Michael Strahan hosted the movie-centric incarnation of the ceremony, which was held in January, while Cat Deeley hosted the television-focused awards show held in May. The host for the upcoming show is yet to be announced.

The prizes will revert to their original name, the Critics’ Choice Awards. The Critics’ Choice Awards will air simultaneously on A&E, Lifetime and LMN on 17 January at 8 p.m
