Chris Pine likely to romance Gal Gadot in DC’s upcoming Wonder Woman

Shattering the earlier rumors of Star Trek’s Captain Kirk, Chris Pine circling the role for the next Green Lantern, it seems DC Comics has something else in store for the blue-eyed Hollywood Heartthrob. Reported first by Variety, Chris Pine is in talks with Warner Bros. to star as the DC character Steve Trevor in DC Comics’ Wonder Woman which hits theatres in 2017. Starring the Israeli actress and model, Gal Gadot as the Amazonian Princess warrior, Wonder Woman who makes her on-screen debut in next year’s Batman v Superman – Dawn of Justice (2016).

Apparently the 34 year-old actor has won over Warner Bros. production executives to star as Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor. The role was earlier offered to Scott Eastwood who chose another DC supporting role in the upcoming Suicide Squad (2016) leaving the studio to pursue Chris for the role in Paradise Island.

While the studio has remained tight-lipped about Wonder Woman’s plot, Steve Trevor’s adaptation could throw hints at the comic line where Steve Trevor is an intelligence officer in the United States Army.  During the World War II Steve’s plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons. He was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him when he returned to the outside world. There she became Wonder Woman (and also his coworker, Diana Prince).

However there are other story arcs related to Steve wherein the intelligence officer works closely in allegiance with A.R.G.U.S’ Amanda Waller eventually heading the secret organization and also acting as UN’s liaison to the newly formed Justice League which is also something DC cinematic universe is edging towards.

Wonder Woman will be helmed by Patty Jenkins who was initially roped in for rival Marvel studio’s Thor 2- The Dark World.

Meanwhile Chris Pine will be seen next in in Coast Guard drama The Finest Hours with Ben Foster and Eric Bana along with his recent projects including Z for ZachariahInto the Woods and Horrible Bosses 2. The fanboy favorite will also begin shooting for the space adventure sequel Star Trek 3 reprising his role as Captain Kirk.
