For a studio that’s relatively new in the comic industry, BOOM! Studios has been doing exceptionally well since its inception. Started back in 2005, BOOM! Studios has grown tremendously and has gone on to generate New York Times best-selling Eisner and Harvey Award-winning comic books and graphic novels. Recently, Village Voice revealed an exciting news for BOOM!’s Lumberjanes (under BOOM! Box imprint). BOOM! Studios is going to have a crossover comic with one of the leading comic publisher, DC Comics.

That’s right folks. The winner of two Eisner Awards, for Best New Series and Best Publication for Teens, Lumberjanes will get a six-issue crossover series with Gotham Academy, DC Comics story of boarding school students set in the darkness of Gotham. Lumberjanes which is often described as ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Gravity Falls’, chronicles the adventures of five young women who are bunkmates at a Camp for “Hardcore Lady-Types.” Whereas in Gotham Academy, it’s about Gotham City’s most prestigious prep school that’s got a spooky campus, oddball teachers, and rich benefactors always dropping by. It’s a teen drama set in the shadow of Batman and the craziness of Gotham City, with new characters and old plus a secret tie to Gotham’s past.

Boom!’s Lumberjanes is currently in development as a movie at 20th Century Fox, with Kira Goldberg and Ryan Jones overseeing the project for the studio alongside BOOM!’s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy. DC’s Gotham Academy, meanwhile, is wrapping up its current run ahead of a relaunch as part of the company’s Rebirth program this fall.

Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy, the first collaboration between BOOM! Studios and DC Entertainment (and first inter-company crossover to be published by BOOM!), will be written by Chynna Clugston-Flores, with art by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, and is set to launch in June.
