BAFTA Games Award 2015 awards winners announced

British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) Games Award 2015 were announced last night with alien shooter Destiny and mobile puzzler Monument Valley winning big at the awards night.

The ceremony hosted by Rufus Hound saw Destiny win the Best Video Game award while the latter was awarded the Best British Game and Best Mobile and Handheld.

Accepting the award Bungie’s president thanked Destiny’s players. “It’s always a labour of love that we do because of the passion of the fans. They really are the ones who drive you to put the energy and time into putting the game together,” said Harold Ryan.

The innovative game Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordar won the award for the Best Game Design with the World War I game Valiant Arts winning the Original IP award. Ubisoft game FarCry 4 did not go empty handed last night winning the Best Music award.

OlliOlli, the indie skateboarding game beat the likes of FIFA 15, Forza Horizon 2 and Madden NFL 15 to win in the Best Sports category while the action adventure survival game The Last of Us: Left Behind won the Best Story and Best Performer despite it only being a DLC. Ashley Johnson, who defeated Kevin Spacey also won the same award last year for the parent game.

Game Innovation award went to The Vanishing of Ethan Carter while the most nominated game Alien: Isolation had to do with only one award for Audio Achievement. League of Legends won the Most Persistent Game while Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft won the award for the Best Multiplayer Game.

Upper Game’s Never alone won the Best Debut game while the console version of Minecraft won the Best Family game. Artistic Achievement went to Lumino City. David Braben, head of Frontier Developments and creator of the Elite franchise, was honoured with a BAFTA fellowship in games. Student game Chambara from the team of Overly Kinect won the Ones to Watch Award.

A total of 51 games were nominated across 17 categories. Alien: Isolation had the maximum nominations (six) while Far Cry 4 and Monument Valley had five each.
