Arena Perspectives 2014 brings animation enthusiasts and industry veterans under one roof; showcases Laika’s next feature ‘The Boxtrolls’

Arena animation conducted Perspectives 2014 – an ospportunity for all animation lovers to interact with big names in the animation and VFX industry on 7 October at the Vivanta by Taj in Pune.

Steve Emerson of Award winning Laika Studios, USA, who is the co-VFX supervisor of The BoxTrolls interacted with over 200 animation and VFX enthusiasts that attended the event and showcased Stop-Motion Animation and New Technology at LAIKA studios which was used in their upcoming film – The Boxtrolls. The session was supported by The Animation Society of India.

At the event, Easo Thampy Matthew, business head for Arena Animation, stated: “We at Arena are always aiming to bridge the gap between animation/VFX aspirants and the industry. Events such as Perspectives are a perfect platform for enthusiasts to meet the professionals and get access to their insights and experiences. We are also fulfilling our goal of producing world class professionals by introducing programs that have been designed to make our students experts in the latest tools used by the industry globally.”

LAIKA’s third film The Boxtrolls, is based on Alan Snow’s bestselling novel “Here Be Monsters”.  Introducing audiences to a new breed of family – The Boxtrolls, a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in the amazing cavernous home they’ve built beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher (Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley), comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs decides to venture above ground, “into the light,” where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnie (Elle Fanning). Together, these soft-boiled detectives uncover the hidden connections in Eggs’ past and devise a daring plan to save his unique family.

LAIKA is an animation studio that produces award-winning films.  Travis Knight serves as President and CEO of the Oregon-based company, which is owned by Nike co-founder and Chairman Philip H. Knight.  LAIKA has produced two Oscar-nominated features: Coraline (2009) and ParaNorman (2012) as well as the CG short Moongirl (2005).  LAIKA’s The Boxtrolls released in theaters on 26 September, 2014.

VFX
