Animated series ‘Kingdom Hearts’ in development for Disney+

Square Enix/Disney game series Kingdom Hearts is reportedly being developed as a CG-animated series for Disney+. Square Enix is reportedly working on the project and will produce a pilot in collaboration with real-time animation tech maestros Unreal Engine.

The scoop was revealed via Twitter by The Cinema Spot insider Emre Kaya last week.

Over the past couple of weeks, rumours have circulated about a Kingdom Hearts series on Disney+ from random accounts on Twitter. MCU Cosmic editor-in-chief Jeremy Conrad, who often provides tips on Disney properties like Marvel, tweeted “Yes, it’s true” alongside a GIF of Kingdom Hearts main characters Sora, Donald and Goofy.

The DisInsider editor-in-chief Skyler Shuler, additionally confirmed that original Disney voice stars Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Pete), Bill Farmer (Goofy, Pluto) and Tony Anselmo (Donald Duck) will be reprising their roles. And now, according to another new rumor floating around, the Kingdom Hearts TV series could also star some famous faces, Angelina Jolie and Will Smith!

The franchise is overseen by Tetsuya Nomura, named one of the Top 100 Video Game Creators of All Time by IGN. The most recent release, Kingdom Hearts III, debuted in January 2019. A mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Dark Road, was announced for Spring 2020, but no updates have been shared since February.
