AMD to release two new GCN GPUs next year

With the recent change in its software systems and moving away from its 13 year old Catalyst Control Centre in favour of Radeon Software, the company is seriously taking steps forward to capture the market and in doing so AMD’s Radeon Chief, Raja Koduri has promised two new GCN graphics cards for 2016.

The company says that the new GPU driver will play an important role in business strategy and with the regular updates would help consumers take better advantage of the AMD GPUs.

With the introduction of Radeon Technologies Group, the driver team is working on bettering the Radeon Software, while the architecture team is working on new hardware designs; these will be based on either the 14nm or 16nm fabrication process. Key focusses will include power consumption and higher performance.

AMD will be focusing on power consumption and higher performance of the GPUs and would plans to venture in the areas of virtual reality, education, professional graphics and even medicine.
