Amazon owned Twitch acquires Curse in an undisclosed deal

While many around the globe might not be aware of the ‘Curse’, gamers on the other hand are almost certainly aware of it. Curse is a multimedia and technology based company whose add-on client and services are used for various games like Minecraft, World Of Warcraft, League of Legends, Smite and more. In recent times, the most popular service that Curse has been providing is the Curse Voice chat (through the desktop client), which enables gamers to connect to other players instantly over voice communication. Curse also has a different client for mobile devices.

Now, the online game streaming giant, Twitch has announced that it is acquiring Curse; however the terms of acquisition remain undisclosed. Twitch itself was acquired by the e-commerce entity Amazon in 2014 for a whopping $1 billion.

Speaking on the deal, Curse, CEO, Hubert Thieblot said, “I’m really excited to see how we can bring Curse services into the Twitch network, and provide an unparalleled experience to both Curse and Twitch users” further adding “This is going to be terrific for the millions of players who use Curse, and for the larger gaming community.”

Twitch exulted in a statement that picking up Curse will help them provide gamers with, “the tools and resources they need to achieve the ultimate gaming experience.”

Twitch, CEO, Emmett Shear said, “We’ve long been fans of Curse, which is an innovator in the games industry with a strong culture built around its offerings- from Curse Voice and Curse Client to Gamepedia,” he further added, “While it’s still early days for Twitch and Curse, we’re kindred spirits in many ways and are looking forward to working together to enhance our users’ gaming experience.

This acquisition definitely seems like a great venture for Curse and Twitch as both are big names in the gaming and eSports scenario.
