Only 10 VFX-heavy movies remain in the Oscar race, final list of nominees to be declared early next year

The top 10 titles in the VFX category have been shortlisted for the 89th Academy Awards. The titles selected will not come as a surprise to many of the enthusiasts as it consists of some of the most alluring projects of 2016.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the list of short-listed contenders. At first, a list of 20 films was shortlisted which has been trimmed to 10 putting out movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Alice through the Looking Glass, Suicide Squad and Deadpool.  The list will further be minimised to five.

Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee is responsible for short listing the films and all the members of the Visual Effects branch will now be invited and shown 10-minute excerpts from the films on 7 January, 2017. After the final screening on that day, five films will be brought together as final nominees for the upcoming edition of the prestigious Academy Awards.

The final nominations for this year’s awards would be announced on 24, January, 2017.

The 89th edition of the Academy Awards or Oscars would be held at Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood on 26 February, 2017 and will be broadcast over 225 countries and territories worldwide.

With previous winner like Interstellar, Ex Machina, Gravity and Life of Pi, the competition will surely be tough and we hope the best one wins!
