MAAC Organizes 48 Hrs – Animated Short Competition

MAAC (Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics), one of the Pioneers in delivering Animation & Vfx Education organized its first “48 Hrs-The Race against Time” – an animation challenge for its students.

In 48 Hrs- the Race against Time, Students had to deliver a 5 second 3d Animation Shot in which they were given a task achieve a 3d film with Modeling, Texturing, Rigging, Lighting, Animation and Rendering modules to be accomplished within 48 hours time frame. The competition pattern consisted of a team of 3 members each. Team work is also a crucial approach of this competition.

48 Hrs- the Race against Time took off on the 30th June at 9 am. The dignitaries who inaugurated the event were, Mr. Anuj Kacker, COO – Aptech Ltd. and Mr. Ram Warrier, Business Head – MAAC.

The Competition was held at MAAC Andheri West Centre-Head Office of MAAC & with supreme response from MAAC Students, 48 Hrs Competition had to be split in two sections. MAAC Mumbai Centre’s were competing in the first slot of 30th-31st whereas the ex-Mumbai centres from MP, Gujarat, & Maharashtra made its mark in this competition from 2nd -3rd of June.

To make the competition facile, MAAC provided its students with a readymade storyboard. The Challenge was to match the given storyboard and deliver a quality result. All teams were working on the same concept.

Animationxpress spoke to Bhavika Chouhan, Sr. VP -Marketing Head, MAAC, she highlighted, “At MAAC, the emphasis has always been on Student Development & Growth of Talent. Through this contest, we intend to provide a platform to aspiring animators to showcase their talent. It will give them a hands-on experience and help them make timely right decisions and excel at the career choice. 

To motivate the teams, winning team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 while the Second & Third Runners up will be presented with Cash Prize of 20000/ & 15000/- each by the jury. 

At MAAC, we aim to train the students in such a way, that they prepare themselves well for a career so sought after today. With such contests, at MAAC we aim to give students a prior exposure to how a production pipeline is dealt with in studios & also going through the Pros and Cons of working with deadlines & overcoming the challenges. 48 hours gives bestows students a chance to understand their own limitations & strengthen it.”

Expressing more on the competition setup, Venkatesh Kamath, Sr. Assistant Director (Academics)
 MAAC, stated“For me,‘48 Hrs- The Race against Time’ is a smaller version of the grand 24 FPS. For sure, with this competition, students will PUSH THEIR OWN LIMITS OF CREATIVITY & INNOVATION. We’ve accommodated students with a digital storyboard which consists of Model Sheets, Sound References and a lot more.”



Elaborating more on Animation as a Career option, Bhavika Chouhan shared,
 “In India, traditional career options like Medicine, Engineering, IT or MBA still rules. However, new age careers like animation is gaining popularity and rowing at a steady pace. With the recent release to 2 animated films, Chhota Bheem an Arjun – The Warrior and few more line-up from the West, animation as a career option is definitely set to take off. The enthusiasm within our Indian crowd shall reach heights with competitions like ‘48 Hours-Race against Time.”

Students were doubtlessly happy & excited working in 48 Hours-Race against Time.
