3 Day Anime Convention in New Delhi from Tomorrow

Cine Darbaar, Embassy of Japan, The Japan Foundation in association with Marwah Studios, Japanese Association and Bande Apart is organizing the 2nd Anime Convention, 2011 at Marwah Studios on 9th, 10th and 11th September, 2011. The festival will showcase 14 Anime films, 14 Convention Activities such as Workshops, Master classes, Contests and 10 Gaming events during these 3 days. The event will be inaugurated by Nabuoki Doi, an independent Anime director, who will also be coming for workshops and screenings of his films.

The inaugural film titled Little Horse Prince Valiant will be specially screened for children while the closing film titled Barefoot Gen is a war film for all age group. The other highlights of the films screenings include films for 15+ such as Mind Game, Midori Ki and Boys on the run. These films are curated to spread awareness that Animation and Manga/comics can be beyond the demographics of children.

After the success of 1st Anime Cine Experience, 2010, the event is all set to become bigger and provide a platform to celebrate cool Japan with Anime, Manga, Japanese gaming, Japanese food, Cosplay Competition, Figurines display and much more. The convention will focus on activities and workshop for all age group starting with children from age 8+, like Anime treasure hunt, Manga Drawing competition, Gaming quiz and special film screenings. For college students the festival will have an indepth masterclass on Making of Independent Anime by Nobuaki. And an extensive workshop on Japanese design philosophies and its influences along with Gaming tournaments. The convention also has dedicated activities for families such as retro gaming and character sketching.

Other activities include the art of making Japanese sushi, a demonstration by chef Vikram of Ai, the Japanese restaurant. The event also invites geek at the Otaku Alley, a platform for all the anime geeks, mecha fans and Manga enthusiasts, powered by TokioGa, where they discuss and explore various aspects in the world of Anime and Manga. TokioGa is a one stop geek paradise and first e-commerce venture to be launched in India to sell all geek products such as figurines, Posters, Manga etc. A Cosplay competition will also be organized to celebrate Manga, Anime, and more by dressing up as your favorite character. The winners will get exciting prizes.

The festival invites academicians, professionals and students to attend a panel discussion on Animation opportunities and challenges in Animation business, challenges for animation and graphic novel writers in the industry along with education prospects. The panelist include Sandeep Marwah, MD, Marwah Studios, Satoshi Hata General Manager, Ritsumeikan University along with Matsuoka, Director, Arts & Culture Exchange, The Japan Foundation.

GamersMint, an online gaming portal and Shubhank Maurya, Game Designer conducted the Project “Finding Mario”, a visual research project which aims to define the various elements of the Japanese visual culture and their influence on the current and future generation of Indians. Many Indians were introduced to Japanese visual culture during adolescence through video games, particularly Nintendo‘s Super Mario Brothers, hence the title of the project. This journal will also be inaugurated at the Convention.

The event also has a Manga Lounge for fellow Manga enthusiasts who can read a variety of Manga and Anime books throughout the course of three days. A Japanese café will be set up by Ai restaurant; one can enjoy the bento boxes and Japanese day on all 3 days. All our workshops and activities will give Anime fans an opportunity to win exciting Anime, Manga and Gaming products from Japan. The entry to the festival is free. Anime Con buses from Siri Fort and Moolchand/Lajpat Nagar at 10: 30 am and 3 pm, twice in a day to make the place accessible. The buses will also drop the audience at 8: 45 pm.
