IndiaTales acquires strategic stake in Bangkok based OPA-Studio |

With a vision to take Asian tales
to a global audience, Bangalore based IndiaTales, a global media
production and distribution company recently announced its acquisition
of a substantial strategic equity stake in Bangkok based OPA-Studio
Company Ltd, a media production house primarily focused on creating
animated feature films. With this 5 million dollar deal IndiaTales
has become the largest stake holder in OPA.
The signing ceremony of the acquisition was held
at Software Industry Promotion Agency headquarters in the
presence of Dr. Rungruang Limchoopatipa, President, SIPA,
Dr. Niracharapa Tongdhamachart, Vice President SIPA, Apichai
Akkachaichanvet, Managing Director, OPA- Studio and Nalin
Singh, Managing Director, IndiaTales.
Speaking to AnimationXpress.com,
Shalendra Vashisth, Commercial Director, IndiaTales shared,
"IndiaTales scouted and evaluated more than 100 studios
in this region for animated content. OPA Studio was identified
through this process and it is the first investment made under
this initiative." After the acquisition, OPA studio will
be working on completing two feature films, Super Panda &
Meduse. Further commenting on the future projects he shared,
"There are a dozen concepts ready with OPA out of which
three will be taken up on the completion of the current two
feature films."
IndiaTales is upbeat
about the quality of production and creativity at OPA and is looking forward to
the first few movies that are going to be produced and distributed with them.
Nalin Singh, MD, IndiaTales shares. "We are excited to partner with companies
in Thailand and open up distribution opportunities at a global scale for them.
We are delighted to be the first international equity partnership in the Thailand
Animation industry."
Apichai Akkachaichanvet,
MD, OPA- Studio, was equally excited and said, "We were on the look out for
a partner that not only provided us with financial support but more importantly
one who is committed to the company for the long term, has a global outlook and
shares common values and vision about the OPA business. We believe IndiaTales
is an ideal match for OPA and look forward to a path of rapid growth and success." IndiaTales
primarily produces and distributes animated film & TV content globally. It
has announced that it will release its maiden animation venture Manikantan in
April 2009. It is currently in an advanced stage of diligence for partnerships
including distribution deals and equity participation for the acquisition of more
than 50 animated properties, both feature films and television series.
