Mumbai-based Classic Animation Studio’s 90-minute 2D feature Buji is all set to release in summer 2009.

Directed by Vinay Kansara and produced by Naina Kansara, the entire production of the film was done at Classic Animation Studio, and took almost two and half years.

The studio is currently in talks with distributors and other agencies for exploring licensing and merchandising opportunities. Speaking to AnimationXpress.com, Classic Animation Studio Marketing head Sumit Kansara said, “We are roping in some of the biggest players to do the India and international distribution. We have big partners investing heavily in merchandising.”

“Our expectation is that Buji will bring a new life into the India animation industry by easing the deadlock that we see today. In return, the market will give Buji all the love it can. Our strategy focuses on bring the film into every house, each kid's bedroom, and into their lives,” Sumit added.

The movie is based in the deep woods of Africa, where the baby fawn Buji is born, loved and looked after by her mother Sara. One morning, Sara falls prey to a mighty lioness Zola and, in a strange twist of fate, is adopted by the lion family. The story flows on as Buji is later held captive by humans and by a bizarre quirk of destiny she finds her original mother Sara in the prison.

Children played a key role in the filmmaking. 60% of the voice artists in the movie were kids below the age of 15 years. Kids have also sung chorus songs for the movie.

The director, Vinay Kansara, said, “We wouldn't have achieved the present quality of the final product without the sharp and very constructive criticism that the kids gave us; after all Buji is specially made for them, we had to trust what they said. Buji is going to be one of the most expensive animated movies ever produced in India.”

The industry will sure pray that Buji will bring Indian children and animation even more closer to each other. Now all that we need to do is to wait till the summer of 2009.
