Entertainment and education company
ACK Media, recently acquired some of India's most-loved brands -
Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle Magazine from India Book House
(IBH) and is on an expansion spree. In a step towards the same,
the company is all set to open a studio in Mumbai which will be
involved in conceptualization and pre-production of animation content.
Speaking to AnimationXpress.com,
ACK Media CEO Samir Patil shared, "The Mumbai studio will largely
be a creative house which will work on concepts and preproduction
of animation and live action content. The studio will focus on producing
the content for Direct to Home, Home Video, broadcast and feature
as well,"

To start with, the studio will employ
close to 20 artists which will be scaled up according to the studio's
requirement with due course of time. The new studio will also be
engaged in creating new IPs and will also take its existing IPs
including Shikari Shambhu, Suppandi, Tantri the Mantri and Kalia
on TV series and other platforms.
On being asked about the investment
in the new venture Samir said, "As our plans, we will be investing
close to USD 20 millions in coming two – three years in all our
upcoming initiatives and this studio is a part of our investment
plans."
Last year, ACK media's acquisition
of Bangalore based Quitemen studio marked ACK’s foray into animation
and game business. The Bangalore studio which is now has been named
as Katha Studio, will focus on ACK's game development plan. "Katha
studio will focus on game and character development where as Mumbai
studio will be targeting the animation business of ACK Media,"
added Samir.
Prior to its acquisition, Quietmen
Studios was already engaged in developing animation and gaming content
with a focus on the overseas market and has provided its creative
services to leading International studios.
Commenting on the revenue model of
the Mumbai set up, Samir shared, "As of now, business model
of the studio will completely be supported by creation of content
for various platforms and selling them to broadcasters, Direct to
Home and other players in the market."
