- The Animation College to open in Mangalore

Stylus
- The Animation College is the latest addition in the animation
education arena in India. Based in Mangalore (Karnataka) the college
is scheduled to open on June 21, 2008. It will provide short term,
career and specialization training programs in animation and visual
effects for students who have completed school education.
Stylus
MD and CEO, Jeevan Kairanna told AnimationXpress.com,
"We will have separate courses for art, technology and other
kind of students. This is because BFA students have different requirements
and skill sets than technology oriented students. Also, we want
a very small batch size so that proper attention can be given to
each student."

The
courses include six month diploma courses in 2D animation and Maya,
three month courses in Combustion and Flash Animation along with
Photoshop and a one month course in Photoshop. The career program
includes a 12-month course in advanced 3D animation, a six month
VFX course and an 18-month filmmaking course. Stylus will also offer
a three month specialization program for candidates with basic knowledge
of Maya, and require further specialization.
Stylus
will also hold extra batches all over Karnataka along with seminars
and workshops on clay modeling and acting.
The
course will have a batch size of maximum 10 to 12 students and the
infrastructure will include separate 2D and 3D laboratories, an
in-house theatre and library. Experienced faculty, Jeevan informed,
would be employed from Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Explaining
the reason behind establishing Stylus, Jeevan said, "Stylus
endevours on production based training and aims to give a boost
to the animation industry in India. I have been in this field since
the last five years and have recruited people. Unfortunately, I
have found that there is very little technical expertise or creativity
among animators. Hence, I have started this college to provide good
creative and technical education to students in order to produce
quality animators. In Stylus, the students will be trained be trained
by expert teachers with production experience."
