This
weekend, animation students have an opportunity to benefit with
expert guidance and exposure to Animation, VFX and Gaming with CGTExpo
'08 going on in full swing in Mumbai.
CGTExpo India's first expo dedicated exclusively to animation kickstarted
at the Bombay Exhibition Center, Goregoan East on May 24, 2008.
Presented by Frameboxx, the two-day expo (May 24 & 25, 2008)
is a cgTantra initiative and was inaugurated by three student members
of cgTantra, who were from outside Mumbai. Also present at the occasion
where Sahil Shah from DASA and Rajesh Turakhia and Naveen Gupta
from Frameboxx.
The
expo has brought institutes, studios and software and gaming companies
under one roof with highlights of the expo being job fairs, masterclasses,
competitions, art galleries and entertainment zones. Spread over
an area of 30,000 square feet, the expo had more than 45 stalls
with animation aspirants and students crowding them. Many were seen
interacting with industry experts.

The
enthused student population was seen filing in and out of the masterclasses.
Today's masterclasses included Rendering with V-Ray by Vladimir
Koylazov, Chaos Group, Storyboarding Techniques by Vinod
K, Independent Animation Consultant, Next Gen GPUGraphics
by Guru Vaidya of NVIDIA, a SIGGRAPH Asia Presentation by Akshay
Darbari, spokesperson of SIGGRAPH, Anatomy & Digital Sculpting
by Siju Thomas and VFX of Om Shanti Om by Prem of Red Chillies
Studios.
The
expo received good reviews from the student community. "It
is difficult to find a forum that gives information on future career
prospects in animation. Coming here was a very good experience,"
said Shailesh Patel who had come down from Ahmedabad especially
for the expo.
By
the end of Day 1, the footfall was 3000+ and although most were
students a good number of animation professionals and enthusiasts
were also in attendance.
