first in line as DQE, Percept sign MoU for 3 animated features

DQ
Entertainment Ltd has signed an MoU with Percept Picture Company to make three
high quality animation films, these include two mythological movies and a Bollywood
based film at a cost of $25 million. The first movie to be worked on is Krishna
- The Prince of Love based on the life of Lord Krishna, to be written and directed
by Kamlesh Pandey.
The
films would be a mixture of hybrid 2D and 3D and are slated for 2009-2010 release.
Speaking to AnimationXpress.com, Abhishek Nayar, Head of Marketing
(Animation), Percept Picture Company shared, “The first movie to be worked on
is ‘Krishna-The prince of love’ based on the life of Lord Krishna. The movie will
be directed by debut director Kamlesh Pandey who is a prolific writer and has
written cult Bollywood movies like Rang De Basanti.”

With
the launch of this movie, Kamlesh Pandey will also make his directorial debut.
Kamlesh has written a number of Bollywood films which include Janasheen, Aks,
Aaghaaz, Saudaagar, Khalnaayak to name a few. On being asked about the his
involvement with animation as a medium, the writer turned director shared, “Animation
is not a new segment for me, I have earlier worked on Celluloid Dreams’ Life
After Death which was for the international audience and Anirights -IHF Krishna.”
“I
visualize that this Krishna movie, Krishna - The Prince of Love is for
a very contemporary audience. My idea to work on Krishna is to make him an idol
amongst today’s youth as he not only had the mischievous behavior but also had
a great sense of responsibility,” he added.
'The
business proposal and co-production understanding between PPC and DQE is aimed
at bringing high-quality story-telling and visuals and international success to
India,” says DQE chairman and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti in an official release issued
by the company.
The
movie is currently in pre-production stage and is being worked upon at DQE with
a team effort of artists from DQE and Percept Picture. Percept will be taking
care of distribution, IPR sales, marketing, concept identification, music, voices,
script and direction and DQE will be responsible to create the high-end animation
for the movie.
“The
Indian animation feature market today finds itself with unprecedented value since
the whopper hit 'Hanuman'. The movie not only smashed records in the animation
segment, but went on to achieve further heights when it broke DVD sales in 2006
followed by the release of 'Return of Hanuman',” Percept Picture joint managing
director Shailendra Singh said.
