Graphic Panels from the Agatha Christie novels

Authors such as Enid Blyton, Carolyn Keene, Agatha Christie, Francine Pascal and R.L Stine are names that a lot of kids have grown up with and whose books have transported them to a world where they personified themselves as the characters in the books.

Giving a more visually stimulating experience to series such as Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene and Leslie McFarlane’ (Franklin W Dixon) Hardy Boys, Euro Books India is all set to launch its next set of Graphic Novels in English on the much loved teen detectives.

Targeted at kids aged Eight and above, The company plans to launch more than a 100 popular titles in graphic novel format in the coming months.

Speaking to AnimationXpress.com, Uday Mathur, MD of Euro Kids’ India & Euro Books shared, “We are planning to launch more than a 100 popular titles in graphic novel format in the coming months. We will promote them through retail book stores where our books are available as well as online promotion on our website”

The first series that was a part of the 100 titles graphic novels bouquet were 13 Agatha Christie titles which have been available in the market since June ’07 priced at Rs.199 per title. These titles have also been clubbed together in four 3-in-1 hardcover compilations consisting of three stories in one book at a cost of Rs. 450 each.

The Agatha Christie graphic novels have been illustrated by well known Belgian artist Frank Leclercq. “We’ve got very good feedback on the Agatha Christie graphic novels. At a certain level we had reached a point of debate between a segment of readers who did not consider it as good as the original books whereas the other segment welcomed the new avatar. The sales have been good and we’ve already begun the second round of printing. For us the graphic novels are not a reproduction of the old books or a substitute but a new product,” added Uday.

In addition to the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys collection of graphic novels, in the goodie bag are also titles such as Biggles which is about a Second World War fighter pilot of which 14 novels.

Euro Books is the exclusive distributor of TinTin in India and will also re-launch 11 titles of Tintin in English.

Commented Uday, “Illustrating books involves a lot of planning and is a long drawn process. All these novels have been originally made in French and are being translated into English in India by Euro Kids. These novels are universal and would appeal to most above the age of 8”

Euro Books is the publishing arm of Euro Kids’, India and has been in the children’s books publishing space for the past ten years.

They have acquired licensing rights to publishing books around Disney, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Mattel properties amongst others.
